The Law

Post #1 by GrannyGrottbags » Thu Oct 24, 2013 12:01 pm

Nine out of the 10 laws below are genuine UK laws. They’re all quite bizarre, but can you guess which one is made up?

There are many laws in the UK which are out of date, and often they are extremely odd. Many are left over from problems in the past, where laws had to be passed quickly, for example, to prevent the spread of plague.
Others show an unusual moral standpoint that may have been held years ago but is no longer accepted.

All of the laws below were passed at some point in British history. Except one.
In London, it is illegal to flag down a taxi if you have the plague.
Perhaps because of the first strange law, cab drivers are legally required to ask each and every passenger if they have small pox or the plague.
All English men over 14 are meant to carry out two hours of longbow practice each week, supervised by the local clergy.
It is illegal not to tell the taxman anything you don’t want him to know, though you don’t have to tell him anything you don’t mind him knowing.
Throughout the whole of England it is illegal to eat mince pies on the 25th of December.
Passing wind in front of the reigning monarch can lead to a charge of treason.
It is illegal to be drunk on Licensed Premises (e.g. in the pub).
It is illegal to leave baggage unattended, and picking up abandoned baggage is an act of terrorism.
In the UK, a pregnant woman can legally relieve herself anywhere she wants – even, if she so requests, in a policeman’s helmet.
It is illegal to die in the Houses of Parliament.
