5th April - Cold and snowy across parts of southern England and the Midlands with temperatures locally below zero all day.
31st May - Severe thunderstorms around London left several people killed by lightning strikes. At Banstead (Surrey) 94mm of rain fell.
12th July - Perth (Perthshire) had a maximum temperature of 32°C.
1st-31st July - Over 380 hours of sunshine along the East Sussex coast.

The first 10 days of the month were rather unsettled but amounts of rain were small. It then became mostly fine for a while with temperatures near, or rather below, normal but with some frosty nights. On the night, of the 15th/16th the temperature almost fell to minus 5°C. A mild start to the last week, with the temperature rising above 10°C. on the 26th, was followed by a cold, but sunny, end to the month. On the 31st the maximum temperature only reached 1.8°C.
February - Rather mild with below average rainfall and slightly above normal sunshine.

The beginning of the month was cold and dry with some frosty nights. On the first 2 nights the temperature fell close to minus 5°C., and on the 2nd the maximum was only 1.1°C. It became milder during the first week, and in this snow-free month, it then turned rather unsettled. On the 18th, the temperature almost reached 13°C., and on the 22nd it was sunny all day. However, it remained changeable, and on the 27th over 9mm of rain fell.
March - Very dull and rather cold with below average rainfall.

After a fairly sunny start to the month, with nearly 9 hours of sunshine on the first day, skies were frequently cloudy during March. Although the month was unsettled, rainfall was mostly light, but on the 13th nearly 7mm of rain was measured. On the 22nd, the maximum temperature reached 15°C., but there were few mild days. On the 27th the highest temperature was only 4.5°C., but the extensive cloud cover helped to reduce the number of frosty nights.
April - Cold, with below normal sunshine and slightly above average rainfall.

The month began wet, with over 25mm of rain falling on the 2nd. Cold northerly winds then set in for a while bringing wintry showers or spells of snow. After a minimum temperature near minus 3°C on the night of the 4th/5th, the high on the 5th was only 1.4°C. The weather became milder and mostly settled during the second week, and on the 15th the temperature rose above 17°C. The end of the month was unsettled with temperatures generally close to average.

There was plenty of dry and warm weather during May, although the middle of the month was cooler and unsettled. On the 13th, nearly 12mm of rain fell and the maximum temperature on the 20th was only 10.8°C. Ground frost occurred at the end of the third week and the beginning of the fourth, but it then became warmer and sunnier. The 29th was sunny all day, and on the 31st, the temperature almost reached 25 Celsius, but this set of some thunderstorms.
June - Above average rainfall with sunshine and temperatures close to normal.

The first fortnight of June was mostly warm and sunny. No measurable rain fell between the 1st and 15th, and on the 5th the temperature reached 27°C. There was nearly a full day of sunshine on the 8th, but the second half of the month became cloudier, cooler and generally unsettled. On the 23rd, nearly 10mm of rain was recorded, and further rain occurred at times during a poor last week of June. The afternoon temperature on the 25th only reached 14.1°C.
July - Very sunny, warm and dry.

In this exceptionally sunny month, there was no measurable rain from the 1st to 25th, and only 3 days with rain were logged during the whole of July. It was mostly warm or very warm with several almost cloudless hot days, although the maximum temperature on the 2nd was a mere 18.2°C. However, on the 22nd the afternoon temperature rose above 31°C. The last few days of the month became less settled and on the 26th, nearly 16mm of rain fell.
August - Very warm, dry and sunny.

Rain fell on the first day of August, but no more measurable rain was recorded until the 19th. It was generally very warm or hot with plenty of sunshine, and on the 9th the temperature rose above 34°C. Around mid month there were days of unbroken sunshine, but following over 9mm of rain on the 21st, it became cooler and rather changeable for the remainder of the month, although rainfall was mostly light.. On the 22nd, the maximum temperature was just 19.8°C.
September - Very sunny, dry and rather warm.

The first fortnight of September was mostly very warm and sunny. On the 8th, the afternoon temperature reached 31°C. Nearly 13mm of rain fell on the 13th, after which it became cooler and more unsettled, but still with plenty of sunshine. The temperature on the 29th only reached 15.1°C, and there were several cool nights towards the end of the month, but although nights were cooler than average, probably due to the dryness of the ground, most days stayed fairly warm.
October - Rather dull and wet with temperatures below average.

The early part of the month was mostly dry and, at times, pleasantly warm. On the 12th the maximum temperature reached 18°C. Around mid October it became unsettled, and the changeable weather then lasted until the end of the month. On the 24th, over 29mm of rain fell. During the last week it turned quite cold, and the maximum temperature was only 9.9°C. on both the 27th and 28th, with the first air frost of the Autumn occurring on the night of the 28th/29th.
November - Rather wet and cold with slightly above average sunshine.

The first day of November was sunny, but this was a very changeable, and often windy, month. There were a few mild days, and on the 5th the maximim temperature approached 15°C. Rain-bearing Atlantic fronts were frequent visitors, but generally passed by swiftly. However, on the 18th, steady rain produced a daily total of over 21mm. The last week of November turned cold with some overnight frosts, and on the 27th the temperature failed to rise above 2.6°C.
December - Very wet and mild with above average sunshine.

It was mostly mild or very mild during this changeable month, and there were only 7 days without measurable rain. On the 7th, over 11mm of rain fell but on the following night a slight frost occurred, and on the 8th the high was only 6.5°C. Unsettled weather returned in the second week, and the third week it became very mild. The temperature on the 17th reached 12°C. A cooler interlude produced a high of 6.5°C. again on the 23rd, but the end of the month was mild.
