British Gas to raise bills for 12m customers by £100
British Gas is planning to hit its 12m household customers with an energy price rise of as much as 8pc in coming weeks.
The supplier, part of FTSE 100 giant Centrica, has been preparing high single-digits percentage increases to both gas and electricity bills, the Telegraph understands.

A rise of 8pc would add close to £100 to a typical British Gas dual fuel bill of £1,232 a year.

The company is likely to announce the move before its interim management statement on November 14 but wants to wait until party conference season is over, in early October, in an attempt to lessen the political backlash.

Centrica raised household prices by 6pc last winter, contributing to a 3.2pc rise in first half profits this year.

But it has repeatedly warned that the rising costs of the government’s ‘energy company obligation’ efficiency scheme, as well as increased grid costs, will ultimately be passed on to consumers through more rises. ... y-100.html

British Gas to increase energy bill by £120 a year

MILLIONS of British Gas customers are to be hit with an inflation-busting 10 per cent rise in fuel bills, it was claimed last night. The nation’s largest energy supplier is said to be planning to add £120 to annual bills.

Scott Byrom, energy expert at price comparison website, called the reported increase “a slap in the face for consumers, particularly as it’s no coincidence that it comes just as the heating goes on.”

The company, which supplies 12 million homes, yesterday declined to comment.
But there were growing fears the increase could come as early as next month, taking a typical “dual fuel” bill to a record £1,355.

It could also trigger a cascade of further price rises by rivals.

Just months ago British Gas owner Centrica pledged to use an earnings windfall from last winter to keep a lid on tariffs.

British Gas raised tariffs by six per cent last December just before a bitterly cold period saw gas consumption rise 18 per cent in the first four months of this year. ... 120-a-year
