Woolly Mammoth
Woolly mammoths could be brought back from the dead in TWO YEARS using DNA from frozen carcasses
Scientists plan to create a mammoth-elephant hybrid in an artificial womb
Frozen mammoth genes will be spliced with those of an Asian elephant
The scientists will use the controversial CRISPR technology to make the hybrid
Its cells will have genes for mammoth features such as shaggy long hair and thick layers of fat

HOW MIGHT SCIENTISTS REVIVE THE MAMMOTH?
'De-extincting' the mammoth has become a realistic prospect because of revolutionary gene editing techniques that allow the precise selection and insertion of DNA from specimens frozen over millennia in Siberian ice.
The most widely used technique, known as CRISPR/Cas9, has transformed genetic engineering since it was first demonstrated in 2012.
The system allows the 'cut and paste' manipulation of strands of DNA with a precision not seen before.
Using this technique, scientists could cut and paste preserved mammoth DNA into Asian elephants to create and elephant-mammoth hybrid.

They are not making a true mammoth but are really making is a hybrid; an elephant with some mammoth DNA in it. That makes applying observations of the hybrid to the real mammoths dubious.Michael Crichton, his "Jurassic Park" method of bringing back the dinosaurs was flawed. It takes more than just the DNA to create new life. There is also the endless series of hormones provided by the mother's body which significantly affect development. This issue is actually addressed in a later film of the franchise. What filled Jurassic Park were artificial creations that only looked like dinosaurs. to create an absolutely accurate Jurassic Park dinosaur today, it would have a hard time even surviving. Despite the name "Jurassic Park", the specific dinosaurs in the movies were from the Cretaceous period. Earth's atmosphere was very different then. Samples trapped in amber show 50% more oxygen, allowing for higher metabolic rates Earth's atmosphere was much thicker and denser during the Mesozoic, dense enough that it provided a small amount of buoyancy to land animals, which allowed them to grow to larger sizes a totally accurate Cretaceous dinosaur today would be gasping for breath, be too heavy for its legs, and probably find the present-day sunshine just a bit too bright for comfort.
